Barack Obama has admitted that his failure to have “commonsense gun safety laws” passed in the United States is the greatest frustration of his presidency.
In an interview with the BBC, President Obama said it was “distressing” not to have made progress on the issue “even in the face of repeated mass killings”.
His comments came just hours before a gunman opened fire in a cinema in the state of Louisiana, shooting dead two people before killing himself.
Mr Obama lands in Kenya later today for his first visit since becoming president.
